The GIANTS have been given a long weekend to mark the end of their first block of pre-season.
The group ended their first block of training with an off-site training session which involved a 90-minute ballet class at the Teresa Johnson Ballet School in Darlinghurst.
The session marked the final full group session before Jamie-Lee Price and Kiera Austin depart for Diamonds commitments.
GIANTS Defender Sam Poolman said the session provided a nice little change up.
“We’ve been working really hard in the gym and on the court and doing a lot of running,” she said.
“I think it’s important to throw in some variety into the day-to-day.”
While Poolman’s path led her in the direction of netball, ballet definitely played a big part in her childhood.
“It’s been a long time since I danced, but it’s funny how something you did for so long when you were younger comes back,” she said.
“The language, how you have to stand, the positions. I definitely enjoyed it.”
In adjudicating the abilities of her teammates, Poolman credited Jamie-Lee Price for her ability to take on feedback and improve as the session went on.
“Tilly (McDonell) on the other hand, I think she’s suited to maybe another style of dance,” said Poolman.
“Maybe jazz, hip-hop or gangster, rather than that elegant style of dance.
“Jemma (Donoghue) who has been training with us, I think she’s a past ballerina herself. She knew the positions and was quite elegant and impressive.”
The season is set to begin on Saturday May, 1 and the fixture is set to be released by the end of the month.
The GIANTS also announced this week that they will travel to the regional town of Orange to play the Adelaide Thunderbirds in a pre-season match.

“Last year made sure we were very adaptable and resilient, so I think everyone is just focusing on each week,” said Poolman.
“For us with the news this week that we’re going to Orange, it’s really exciting.
“Annie Miller, one of our training partners, is from there. It’s a regional town and they’re really excited to have us and we’re really excited to go there.
“Plenty to look forward to. Taking each week as it comes and working really hard.”
