GIANTS Netball is disappointed to announce that this weekend’s Season Launch has been cancelled.
The cancellation is due to circumstances beyond the club’s control, with the Netball court at Ken Rosewall Arena not currently ready for elite netball due to a moisture issue with the timber flooring.
GIANTS Netball Executive General Manager Tim Underwood said he was saddened to inform the GIANTS Netball family of the change of plan.
“We apologise for the disappointment this causes, however we have to put the safety and welfare of our athletes first,” said Mr Underwood.
“Experts have assessed the situation and explored a range of temporary measures; however no suitable solution was able to be reached ahead of Saturday.
“After a year away from our members and fans, our athletes were looking forward to this event as much as everyone else.”
The venue provider, who operate the facility, have reassured the club that the surface issue will be resolved in time for start of the Suncorp Super Netball competition next month.
This weekend’s pre-season match against the Queensland Firebirds will still go ahead and will be played at Netball Central with limited attendance exclusive to those that pledged their membership during the 2020 season.
The match will also be live streamed via the GIANTS Facebook and YouTube accounts for all members and fans to enjoy.
GIANTS Netball are scheduled to play the historic opening game at Ken Rosewall Arena in round two against the Collingwood Magpies.
