2022 GIANTS Academy Squad Announced

The GIANTS are continuing to build the foundation of the club for years to come, with yet another strong list of local talent named in the Academy for 2022.

Twenty-five of the state’s best up and coming netballers will work within the GIANTS set-up as they continue their development and endeavours of becoming not only Super Netball players, but Australian Diamonds.

The Academy, which is a crucial part of the Netball NSW Pathway, provides athletes with the opportunity to train in an elite environment as they work towards national identification and Super Netball elevation.

Entering its third year, just under 100 aspiring athletes nominated for the GIANTS program.

The Academy will train on-court and in the gym three times a week, with a holistic approach to covering all aspects of what it takes to be an elite netballer.

Among the 25 athletes are the GIANTS’ training partners, who spend time across both the GIANTS program and the Academy.

Academy Manager and GIANTS Assistant Coach Jenny O’Keeffe congratulated the athletes selected.

“It was fantastic to see the calibre of athletes that nominated, and we think we have a really exciting mix of players involved,” said O’Keeffe.

“We welcome eight new athletes into the GIANTS set-up including Alannah Gilbertson and Jade Dawson who have been named in the National 17U Squad.

“The past two-seasons have been tough for all netballers in New South Wales, and we can’t wait to start working with this group.

“With the exposure and standard that his program has to offer it’s going to be invaluable to the growth, development and hopefully success of these girls.”

Netball NSW Coach of the Year Ali Tucker-Munro will be the head coach for a second season and will be supported by former GIANT Sam Poolman as well as some of the contracted GIANTS .

The GIANTS Academy is hopeful to compete as a team for the first time in the highly-anticipated Australian Netball Championships next year.
