The GIANTS are excited to announce the next cohort of athletes selected in the GIANTS Netball Academy for the 2024/25 season.
The GIANTS Netball Academy program creates a clear path for athletes in New South Wales from grassroots netball to the elite level and will lay the foundations for the club and sport for years to come.
Designed to support the most promising and up-and-coming local talent, the GIANTS welcome a new-look program ahead of next season in the Academy’s sixth year of operation.
The new-look setup will introduce a refined and targeted age group of 18–25-year-olds designed to strategically transition players from the 19U state program and develop them for opportunities as training partners and furthermore Suncorp Super Netball contracts.
The program will best mimic the environment of Super Netball and provide a holistic approach to preparing athletes for the elite level including skills sessions, strength and conditioning programs, mentoring, nutrition, psychology and recovery.
Reducing the program size to offer more tailored and intense programs, the GIANTS have selected a squad of 12 athletes ahead of next season, with 10 to form the Academy and two to be elevated to training partners before the start of the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season.
GIANTS Netball head coach Julie Fitzgerald congratulated the athletes selected.
“We are incredibly excited to welcome this talented cohort into the GIANTS Netball Academy,” she said.
“These athletes represent the future of our sport, and we are committed to providing them with the resources and support they need to thrive.
“The new age category and reduced squad size are designed to create a focused training environment. With just 10 athletes, we can ensure each player receives personalised coaching and development tailored to their individual needs.
“I look forward to seeing how these athletes embrace this opportunity and push themselves to reach new heights.”
The GIANTS Netball Academy program will get underway in November.
