Lauren Moore will suit up for her 50th game in Suncorp Super Netball as the GIANTS take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds on Sunday.
For Moore, the milestone surprised her in more ways than one.
“I didn’t actually quite know it was my 50th, I knew I was close, but I’m really excited,” Moore said.
“There was a time where I didn’t know if I’d be playing netball again, let alone 50 games of Super Netball.”
After two major shoulder injuries early in her netball career with the Swifts, Moore learnt the importance of seizing your opportunities.
“When you do something you love, just go hard at it,” she said.
“Especially being a female athlete and having those injuries, you never know when you might not be able to play again.”
Moore grew up in Wyong, on the Central Coast of NSW, dreaming of the opportunity to be a professional netballer.
“I played every sport under the sun, netball was always my favourite.
“When I made the decision to pursue netball, playing professionally was definitely my goal.”
She started her career with the Swifts as a 17-year-old, making her National League debut at the age of 18.
The 184cm defender spent six years with the Swifts as both a training partner and contracted athlete, before moving to the GIANTS for the 2022 season.
Her departure from the Swifts was not a decision made lightly.
“One of my biggest fears coming into a completely different team was, is it going to be just as good?”
“Once I arrived at the GIANTS, I was surprised with just how little it took me to fall in love with the club and the people in it.”
The GIANTS take on the Adelaide Thunderbirds on Sunday, 4pm at Ken Rosewall Arena.
