Where and When: Saturday, 17 July, 3:00pm (AEST) / 2:30pm (ACST), Netball SA Stadium
Where to watch: Channel 9, 9Now, Netball Live Official App
Last time they met: It was in front of over 8,000 fans at Ken Rosewall Arena in round six when the two teams last met. The Swifts were the clear winners on the court, taking a 12-goal win over an out of form GIANTS line-up. The GIANTS trailed by four goals at the main break, but only managed to contribute another 19 goals from the final 30 minutes of the game to record their lowest score of the season to date.
What it means for the GIANTS: Any match between these two teams means more than what the final scoreboard reflects. Taking on cross-town rivals in any sport brings a heightened level of passion and competitiveness in a bid to hold bragging rights in your home state. A win for the GIANTS would not only satisfy all members and fans back home, but help them to hold onto their spot in the top four ahead of taking another two top four sides in the final three rounds.
Where’s the opposition at: Sitting on top of the Suncorp Super Netball ladder, the Swifts are in some of their best form since taking out the Super Netball championship in 2019. They come off a convincing win over the Melbourne Vixens as well as being the first team to trump the competition front runners, West Coast Fever, in round nine. Since facing the GIANTS in round six earlier this year, the Swifts have only lost one game which was on South Australian soil against the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
The number: 1105. The last time the GIANTS got the upper hand on their fiercest rivals was in round 10 2018, Sunday 8th July, at the International Convention Centre in Sydney’s Darling Harbour.
Key Match Up: Jamie-Lee Price v Maddy Proud. A key match-up that will start before the first centre pass has even been thrown. Naturally the core of their setups, both players have played pivotal roles for their sides so far this season. Price, who favours more of a defensive midcourt role has 17 intercepts to her name, while Proud’s strength comes in her ability to deliver the ball to her in from shooters with 233 feeds and 138 goal assists.
