Promising young defender Matilda McDonell will remain a GIANT for another season after signing with the club until the end of 2021.
Season 2021 will be McDonell’s third season with the GIANTS, with the now 20-year-old having been part of the club since she left school.
The young defender played the one game in her debut season in 2019 and added another nine games to her name during season 2020.
McDonell said she was excited to be offered another playing contract for 2021.
“There is no better feeling than playing in the orange dress with your family,” she said.
McDonell has become a familiar face in the GIANTS this season for not only her contribution and development on-court, but also her passion and enthusiasm off the court, particularly in some of the GIANTS’ close encounters this season.
“We’ve had so much growth and spirit in our 2020 season,” McDonell said.
“Our team has a really exciting mix of big dogs and young guns.
“It was really disappointing that we didn’t get to have a crack at finals considering how much potential our team has.
“However, that just means we have to roll up our sleeves in pre-season and leave no stone unturned so we can work towards the 2021 premiership.”
McDonell is one of seven athletes within the GIANTS Netball program that are currently in the squad for the Netball World Youth Cup which has been postponed until late 2021 or early 2022.
With the Super Netball league’s Collective Player Agreement (CPA) finishing at the end of 2021, clubs are only able to sign players on one-year deals.
