GIANTS Netball Academy Players were treated to something special last Thursday afternoon, on what would have been the final day of the 2020 National Netball Championships in Hobart.
The club was due to have a total of eight athletes participating in the U19’s tournament across New South Wales, Northern Territory and Tasmanian teams.
For some it would have been their first time participating in the Championships, while for others it was their last chance to prove themselves at a National Underage competition.
GIANTS defender, and former underage NSW representative, Sam Poolman facilitated a special surprise Zoom session featuring a range of past NSW players such as Gabi Simpson, Kim Ravaillion, Susan Pettitt and April Brandley, to hear the highs and lows of their netball journeys.
“As a club we thought it was timely to remind the girls that we were thinking of them and sending our love and support as they were dealing with the cancellation of the event due to COVID-19,” GIANTS Assistant Coach Jenny O’Keeffe said.
"The banter and reminiscing of when and how they all made their first teams, missed others on the way and their fondest memories of Nationals was heart-warming, inspiring and put a smile on the girls faces at the end of a tough week."
Poolman was also assisted by fellow GIANT and NSW rep Amy Parmenter when they ran an online session for the NSW 17/U team and their coaching staff.
