Ang Frketic has been elevated to a training partner following the reshuffle in the squad since Kiera Austin’s season ending injury.
Frketic has always been a part of the GIANTS pathway, representing the Canberra GIANTS in what was formerly the Australian Netball League competition and most recently has been part of the GIANTS Netball Academy.
A moving shooter who has worked her way through the Netball NSW pathway, Frketic started her journey at Liverpool Netball Association and now finds herself representing UTS Sparks on a Wednesday night in the Origin Energy Premier League competition.
The 23-year-old is no stranger to playing alongside her now GIANTS teammates having taken the court during both the pre-season this year, as well the GIANTS’ trip to New Zealand at the start of 2020.
“We’re delighted to give Ang the opportunity as a training partner and have no doubt she will fit in seamlessly,” said Julie Fitzgerald.
“Ang is humble and hardworking and just goes about her business - I’m looking forward to seeing what she can achieve at this next level.
For a second year, the GIANTS will have six training partners as part of their squad setup.
“With so many girls in the Netball World Youth Cup squad we want to ensure we are offering them the best pathway and preparation to be selected in that,” said Fitzgerald.
“Given our injuries that we have faced this year we’ve experienced first-hand the need for depth and preparedness in your training partners and fortunately for Amy [Sligar] and Annie [Miller] they were able to make their Super Netball debuts as a result.”
Frketic will join the GIANTS for one court session a week and will continue to do her strength and conditioning sessions with the Academy due to her career away from the court as a radiographer.
