Upon arrival at Perth Airport GIANTS Netball adhered to the Western Australian government’s protocols and were tested for coronavirus.
The team is now in self-isolation as Netball Australia works with Netball WA and the Western Australian government to go through the necessary approvals for Monday night’s game.
The GIANTS will fly to Perth on Thursday ahead of their match against the West Coast Fever on Monday evening.
Having been in Melbourne to play the Vixens last weekend, the decision was made for the team to relocate early to ensure the match proceeds as scheduled given the evolving coronavirus situation in Victoria.
The players and staff are not connected to any exposure sites in Victoria and there are currently no restrictions on travel between NSW and WA.
GIANTS Netball General Manager Tim Underwood said:
“The decision was made for the travelling party to depart early to ensure our match with the Fever proceeds as planned.
“We understand how quickly the situation can evolve and the early departure will allow us to continue our preparations for Monday night’s clash with as little disruption as possible.
“We thank our entire squad and support staff for the agile and responsive attitude and look forward to what is shaping up as a blockbuster clash against the Fever on Monday.”
Suncorp Super Netball Operations Manager Bill Allen said the league was continuing to work with the relevant health authorities.
“I'd like to thank the clubs and umpires for being agile and adaptable as the coronavirus situation unfolds in Victoria,” Allen said.
“We are closely monitoring the situation to ensure all Suncorp Super Netball players, coaches, staff and officials are following the advice of the relevant health authorities.”
The match is scheduled for Monday night at RAC Arena at 6pm WST/8pm EST with live coverage on Telstra TV and the Netball Live app.
