It was meant to be on the topic of pre-season, but as it's the first edition we accepted an array of questions.
Q: Jo, how much did it mean to you to become captain and how much has it changed your game?
A: It was huge honour to become club captain. It does bring some additional responsibilities but the same pride when playing on court.
Q: April, does Clay like to be part of pre-season?
A: He sure does! So i could get my conditioning sessions done in off-season, Clay and I would head out together, him in the pram. He loved it so much that sometimes he would sleep on the job.
Q: Jamie-Lee, what are your top tips for marking the circle and rebounding as a C?
A: Attacking - holding strongly on the circle edge and giving a clear angle to my shooters to put the ball into space and staying there until shot has been scored. Defensively - changing and moving around the attacker changing your angles to annoy and move the attacker on circle edge to make it harder for shooter to pass to attacker on the edge.
Q: Tilly, is it difficult being the funniest?
A: It’s a heavy burden I carry, but I carry it with pride. You have to wake up every morning being fresh even when you feel dank. All jokes aside I don’t think I’m the funniest, but I’m definitely the goofiest.
Q: Kiera, what are some shooting tips?
A: Start close and try to get a few shots in a row before slowly moving further away. Bend your knees, up on your toes and flick the wrists.
Q: Amy, what inspires you the most and pushes you to be your best?
A: Getting to meet kids that watch us play and love the GIANTS just as much as I do. And wanting to play well for the girls and do everything I can to help get us the win.
Q: Maddie, biggest tip for being a mid court player?
A: Always communicate with everyone around you. When you’re on the same page everything is easier.
Q: Jo, does Patrick ever make an appearance at training?
A: Patty likes the running sessions on the field, he’s joined a few. Not so good at the footwork rules on court.
Q: April, what is it like being a Mum playing netball?
A: It's the best! It is hard work somedays but so worth it and rewarding. it also takes a village of support.
Q: Jamie-Lee, how do you do your bun so good?
A: Making sure my hair isn’t freshly washed cause then it’s too soft; so basically not washing it for a few days heading into the game so it’s nice and firm and oily (sounds gross but doesn’t move.)
Q: Tilly, how do you balance your degree with training?
A: It’s definitely a massive juggle doing my degree full-time. The main driver for doing it full time is that I’ll be able to have my degree completed in 5 years total, as opposed to 10 years doing it part time. That’s an extra five years in the workplace. I really love what I’m studying and that’s what gets me over the line. I have big dreams of becoming a boss sports lawyer with the main goal of achieving parity for women in sport.
Q: Kiera, how do you play both GA and WA so seamlessly?
A: Keep up the attacking skills; change of direction and pace and just remember not to go offside if you're WA.
Q: Amy, What's the best thing you've learnt from an umpire?
A: Arguing only makes things worse and body language is everything.
Q: Maddie, biggest tip for a midcourter?
A: Sounds cheesy but it’s being back with the girls. Miss them when we’re on our break and it’s way easier doing our fitness sessions together.
