Week two of pre-season has concluded with confirmation of the 2021 season start date.
Suncorp Super Netball confirmed earlier this morning that the season would begin on Saturday, May 1 and culminate with the Grand Final on Sunday, August 29.
GIANTS WD, Amy Parmenter said it’s exciting to have a start date.
“I still have a few trust issues from last year about when it will start,” Parmenter joked.
The fixture has been unveiled as a 14-week home and away fixture, with the GIANTS to host seven home games.
“The way I play my role in WD usually makes me quite sore after a game; so I found backing up for another big game in as little as two days time was hard,” she said.
“It took a big toll on my body and I learnt a lot about how important all kinds of recovery are, especially sleep.
“I also can’t wait to play at the new stadium (Ken Rosewall Arena at Sydney Olympic Park) in front of the orange army. I really missed the GIANT crowd last year – it just wasn’t the same and it’s probably what I’m looking forward to most about this season.”
Parmenter said it had been another big week of training.
“It was a little easier than week one – week one is always the hardest,” she said.
“We have been finishing Friday’s off with shuttle runs which are killers but a good way to head into the weekend.
“Thursday’s conditioning got me good. It was my first time on the ski erg and I have lot of work to do technique wise according to the feedback I got on social media.”
The GIANTS returned to a full training program last Monday following an extended holiday period.
“It’s so nice to be back with the girls,” said Parmenter.
“The feeling in the group is really good.
“After coming out of the hub, our off-season was a bit longer than usual and they say distance makes the heart grow fonder, so it’s especially good getting the band back together for 2021. “
The 23-year-old said she is feeling refreshed and revitalised following the off-season break.
“I returned (to Sydney) from the hub exhausted,” she said.
“I am a big netty nerd and usually love all things netty but I really needed some time away from the game. It was nice to spend time with my family and be able to focus on uni exams and just have days filled with fun things outside of netball.”
Parmenter isn’t one to sit still, keeping more than active and busy during the break.
“I always love doing other types of training during the break to keep things interesting,” she said.
“I did a few run swims sessions down at Clovelly which were super fun - I highly recommend giving them a go.
“I also worked on my little passion project - The Tie Dye Project which was heaps of fun.
“We tie dyed about 850 pairs of socks and 600 bucket hats to raise money for The Sydney Children's Hospital. It was such a special weekend after what had been a difficult year. It was nice to finish it off with lots of colour and friends and just all-round good vibes.”
