Netball fans won’t have to wait as long for the Suncorp Super Netball League to return in 2022, with the season to begin on Saturday, March 26.
The season will start and finish earlier than previous years due to the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, which will be held from Thursday, July 28 to Monday, August 8.
The league is currently working with clubs and new broadcaster Foxtel Group on the 2022 fixture, including the Team Girls Cup pre-season competition and the Grand Final date.
The fixture will include a number of marquee rounds and matches, as well as new time slots and new-look coverage on Fox Sports and Kayo.
Netball Australia CEO Kelly Ryan said the league had balanced its commitment to deliver a 60-game season in 2022 with preparation for the Commonwealth Games.
“We’re thrilled that a start date has been locked away, now our clubs and stakeholders have a date to work towards and fans can start to get excited for the start of the season,” Ryan said.
“The 2022 season marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Suncorp Super Netball competition, as we commence a new five-year broadcast deal with the Foxtel Group.
“The Commonwealth Games is one of the biggest stages for our sport, and we have brought forward to season to ensure the Australian Diamonds and international athletes have the best possible preparation.”
