The GIANTS continue to build the foundations for the future years of the club with another strong intake of athletes into their Academy for 2023.
Supporting the most promising up-and-coming local talent, the GIANTS have selected 16 athletes alongside their four Training Partners to form the Academy for next year.
The 20 athletes will work within the GIANTS’ high-performance set-up as they continue their development and endeavours of becoming not only GIANTS and Super Netball players, but Australian Diamonds.
The Academy, which is a crucial part of the Netball NSW pathway, provides the athletes with both on-court and gym sessions three times a week, with a holistic approach to covering all aspects of what it takes to be an elite netballer.
Jemma Donoghue, Charli Fidler, Ang Frketic and Erin O’Brien will spend time across both the Academy and SSN training environment as part of their selection as Training Partners.
The 2023 Academy squad also includes 2022 nationally identified athletes Monika ‘Otai, Ella Johnson and Millie Roach, with the trio appearing at their respective age camps at the Australian Institute of Sport in July this year alongside Fidler and O’Brien.
Selected in the Academy for the first time are Hope White, Olivia Harris and Sharnee Behr, while Violet Wetsteyn and Georgia Cottle will both return from injury.
GIANTS Academy and Pathway Manager and GIANTS Assistant Coach Jenny O’Keeffe congratulated this year's group of athletes.
“We are delighted by the calibre of athletes we have this year,” O’Keefe said.
“We welcome back 17 of our athletes from last year and are excited by the addition of three new players.
“As we continue to evolve and enhance the environment and development of this program we are excited to launch a more individualised program for 2023 which will ensure our current athletes are provided with a professional daily training environment to maximise their potential and provide additional support to our players through all levels of competition.”
