The fixture for round 11 of the Suncorp Super Netball has been finalised, with the GIANTS now facing the NSW Swifts at Netball SA Stadium at 3pm (AEST) on Saturday, July 17.
The second NSW Derby of 2021 was originally scheduled to take place in round 12 in front of a capacity-crowd at Sydney’s home of netball, Ken Rosewall Arena.
This will be the third time in the past 12-months that the biggest match on the Netball NSW calendar will be played interstate.
The two NSW teams left Sydney at the start of the most recent COVID-19 outbreak on June 23 and have since spent time in Queensland and Victoria, before relocating to South Australia on Thursday night alongside the two Victorian-based sides.
GIANTS Netball Executive General Manager, Tim Underwood said he feels for the NSW netball community who won’t be able to attend the marquee event.
“We’re disappointed for our members, players and staff that the NSW Derby has once again had to be played interstate but we understand and support the decision for the match to be re-fixtured due to the current COVID environment,” said Mr Underwood.
“We appreciate the efforts of the league and all teams involved for the sacrifices they’re making.
“These two teams have quickly developed a strong rivalry and no doubt our members and fans will experience the same sense of passion and competitiveness as they watch on from home this weekend.
"I would also like to say thank you to those members and supporters who have passed on their messages of support for the team over the past weeks - it doesn't go unnoticed."
The league is committed to delivering a full 60-match season as they continue to work with the current challenges of the evolving COVID-19 situation in Australia.
