Netball NSW today announced it has reached an agreement to transfer ownership of the GIANTS Netball Super Netball licence to Sports Entertainment Group (SEG), with the transfer to take effect from 1 October 2026 ahead of the 2027 season.
The new-look franchise will remain based in the growing Western Sydney market and intends to continue playing home games at Sydney Olympic Park. A new team name, logo and colours will be unveiled in the coming months.
SEG is an Australian sports media, content and entertainment business with extensive experience across professional sport, including ownership of the Melbourne Mavericks in Suncorp Super Netball and several professional basketball franchises.
Current Head Coach Nerida Stewart and Assistant Coach Jen Wright will remain in their respective roles through the 2027 season, ensuring continuity as the club begins this exciting new chapter.
Since entering the competition in 2017, GIANTS Netball has created unforgettable memories, celebrated outstanding athletes, reached major milestones and built a passionate supporter base across Western Sydney, New South Wales and beyond. Established by Netball NSW as the state's second Super Netball team, the club has played a significant role in growing the game and inspiring the next generation of netballers.
The transfer of the licence represents an important milestone for both the club and the future of elite netball. It provides certainty ahead of the upcoming Super Netball contracting window and positions the franchise for long-term growth under dedicated commercial ownership.
Netball NSW also extends its sincere thanks to the GWS GIANTS for its unwavering support through the strategic alliance that has helped guide the management and development of GIANTS Netball over the past decade.
Netball NSW will continue to own and operate the NSW Swifts, while working closely with SEG to ensure a smooth transition ahead of the 2027 season.
To our members and fans, thank you for standing with GIANTS Netball, wearing orange with pride and helping make this club so much more than a team. While the name, colours and brand will soon evolve, the commitment to elite netball in Western Sydney, our players and our community remains stronger than ever.
Further information, including details about the new team identity and membership arrangements for 2027, will be shared in due course.
