GIANTS coach Julie Fitzgerald has praised her side after their 11 goal win over the Adelaide Thuderbirds on Sunday.
Fitzgerald, who is in her third season as coach of the GIANTS, said the she was impressed by her side’s intensity across four quarters.
“Everyone played well but I’m really happy that we maintained that intensity and that we were able to remain consistent across the four quarters which is something we’ve really been trying to look for,” she said post-match.
“We talked a lot about why we would have fallen away so much in that third quarter last week, that was really disappointing and it’s not what we expect of ourselves, so we addressed that and tried to work around it.”
The GIANTS were impressive across the court, but it was Wing Defence Amy Parmenter and Goal Attack Jo Harten who stood out.
Harten shot 33 goals at 89.2 per cent as shooting partner and Australian Diamonds captain Caitlin Bassett scored 32 goals at 91.4 per cent.
“I thought Jo had an excellent game today,” Fitzgerald said.
“It’s not just the goals she shoots it the work she does out the front and the work she does in defence.”
Parmenter, who recorded seven gains and a game-high four interceptions, was named the game’s MVP.
In her first season in the senior squad 21-year-old Parmenter was quick to pay credit to her teammates who she said gave her confidence to play with freedom.
“I’ve had so much support around me,” she said.
“Kristiana, Jamie-Lee and Sam; we’re all connecting more which makes such a difference when you’re on the same page.”
“Rather than trying to focus just on your player you know you’ve got each other’s back and if you miss a ball you know you’ve got someone behind you who can pick up your player.”
While the GIANTS led each quarter, Parmenter said the squad was pleased with how they played out the final quarter.
The GIANTS won the fourth term 16 to 13 to ensure they claimed all four bonus points.
“We know how hard we’ve worked in pre-season and we know we’ve got the legs to run out a full game,” she said.
“We knew it was going to be a grind, they’re really talented and they’ve got a really classy side.
“We just dug deep, and it was good to keep putting on that pressure in the last as we did in the first.”
The GIANTS now turn their attention to the West Coast Fever, who they face in Perth at the RAC Arena on Saturday evening.
It’s the GIANTS’ first trip to Perth since their narrow two-goal loss there in round six last year.
Parmenter says she’s excited for her first Suncorp Super Netball game at RAC Arena.
“It’s going to be good trip, I know that arena, I’ve played there in the ANL but I’ve never taken the court there in front of a massive crowd,” she said.
“I’ve only ever watched from the sidelines so I’m super excited to get the chance to get out there and show what I can do in Perth.”
