Suncorp Super Netball’s most experienced coach, Julie Fitzgerald, has re-committed to the GIANTS for a further two seasons.
The 360-game coach will continue her National League coaching career into her 25th season, having put to pen paper with the GIANTS until the end of 2023.
Fitzgerald has been instrumental in the start-up and success of the GIANTS.
Attracting word-class players, whilst developing local talent, Fitzgerald has coached the GIANTS to two Minor Premierships, two Grand Finals and three finals appearances in her five years with the club.
Her work at the club is not only reflected by the finals campaigns she has led the team to and win-loss ratio, but by the development of NSW talent and her contribution to the NSW netball community.
Every Training Partner Fitzgerald has listed with the GIANTS has debuted in Suncorp Super Netball or been selected in national representative squads.
Fitzgerald said she was privileged to have the opportunity to continue to develop the club.
“Whilst we had success in 2021, I feel like we have unfinished business and I look forward to seeing what we can achieve as a club over the next two years and beyond,” she said.
“I’m excited by the group we have in 2022. There is a blend of both youth and experience and every one of them is excited and ready to be a GIANT.
“I’m proud to be a part of this club and what we’re looking to achieve.
“Nine of our 10 athletes are local products and the pathway we provide for NSW athletes across our main squad, training partners and Academy sets a real commitment and example to players of all levels across the state.”
Jenny O’Keeffe will also remain as Fitzgerald’s assistant, as she works closely alongside both the GIANTS contracted ten, Training Partners and GIANTS Netball Academy.
After an impressive 2021, Fitzgerald has retained her core group with seven of the minor premiership players committing to the club for the maximum two-years in line with her own two-year commitment.
