The GIANTS are excited to confirm the special guests involved in this year’s Fitzy in the Making coaching clinic.
Operating in its third edition, Julie Fitzgerald will be joined by coaching greats Vicki Wilson and Nicole Richardson, with this year’s focus on the most recent Netball World Cup.
Vicki Wilson has had an esteemed career in the sport, having represented Australia for 15 years, including serving as captain for four years, where she was arguably the world's best shooter for the majority of her career.
Following her playing career, Wilson has been committed to the future development of the sport she loves and guiding the next generation of players. She has held coaching roles at the Queensland Firebirds, Sunshine Coast Lightning, New Zealand Silver Ferns and Fiji Pearls. In January 2023, Wilson was appointed to World Netball’s Coaching Advisory Panel which saw her travel to this year’s World Cup in South Africa working with coaches from all 16 nations.
Nicole Richardson is part of a select group of athletes having represented Australia in both netball and softball. Richardson earned a total of 32 caps as a midcourter for Australia, which included a goal medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games as well as a silver medal at the 2003 World Championships.
Since retiring from the game in 2003, Richardson has forged a distinctive coaching career. Working with netball’s most promising young talent at the centre of excellence, Richardson then took on assistant coach roles with the West Coast Fever and Collingwood Magpies, before becoming head coach of the Magpies in 2021. Ahead of the 2021-22 international season, Richardson was appointed as the assistant coach of the Australian Diamonds.
Also joining the line-up for the 2023 edition of Fitzy in the Making is GIANTS Academy coach and Netty Heads founder, Tiff Gilmore, as well as GIANTS Netball Head of Strength and Conditioning and Sports Science, Tom Reddin.
