Training Partner Ang Frketic will captain the GIANTS Academy side at the 2023 Australian Netball Championships (ANC) later this month.
Frketic has been a member of the extended GIANTS squad since 2021 and made her GIANTS debut in 2022.
A Liverpool Netball Association junior, the 25-year-old now represents UTS Sparks in Netball NSW’s Premier League competition.
Frketic is no stranger to Suncorp Super Netball’s underpinning competition, having represented the GIANTS Academy at the inaugural tournament last year, as well as previously playing for the Canberra GIANTS in the Australian Netball League
In 2022 Frketic finished the six-day tournament with 109 goals at a shooting accuracy of 100 per cent.
Frketic will be supported in her leadership position by GIANTS mid-courter Amy Sligar.
“It is a massive honour to lead our team at ANC,” Frketic said.
“It is a huge privilege to be chosen by our playing group and to be valued by the team is so special.”
The team departs for Queensland on Friday, with the final training session to take place later this week.
“I’m really proud of how focused and committed we have been in the last couple of weeks,” she said.
“Our connections have been building nicely on-court and our versatility and depth is very exciting.
“Coaches Jenny [O’Keeffe] and Tiff [Gilmour] have done an amazing job driving the importance of intent and intensity both on court and in the gym.
“We have such a positive group with huge potential, so I'm excited to see what we can achieve together at ANC.”
The agile and accurate shooter has spent the past three seasons training and developing her craft alongside some of the league's most damaging goalers as a GIANTS Training Partner.
“As a Training Partner there is no better preparation for ANC than training with and against some of the best in an SSN environment,” Frketic said.
“From a leadership perspective, I'm excited to lead by example and uphold the GIANTS’ values and standards I have learnt from my time in the SSN training environment.”
The open-age Championships will be contested from August 21-27 between 11 teams from state and territory member organisations and Suncorp Super Netball clubs.
Moreton Bay Council is set to host the tournament-style event at Morayfield Sports and Events Centre in Brisbane's north, providing an opportunity for both local and interstate fans to experience the action across the week.
Tickets start from $10 for junior and concession and from $15 for adults. Tickets can be purchased here.
