The GIANTS will this weekend host their inaugural Pride Round as part of the league’s inclusion round.
The designated league-wide inclusion round provides an opportunity for every club to celebrate the inclusiveness of the game, with each club able to determine their respective initiatives.
The GIANTS playing group unanimously decided on Pride as their chosen theme, to support diversity and inclusion of LGBTIQ+ communities and families.
The GIANTS have consulted with LGBTIQ+ group Proud2Play who have conducted education sessions with the team, high performance and admin staff, as well as game day staff and volunteers.
GIANTS Netball Executive General Manager, Tim Underwood, welcomed the initiative from the league.
“We truly believe netball is a sport for everyone and are excited by the opportunity to champion the theme of inclusivity and support the LGBTIQ+ community,” Mr Underwood said.
“For us it’s not just about this week but as a sport and as a club we hope to continue to lead the way in providing a safe and inclusive environment for our players, staff, members, fans and participants of the game here in New South Wales.
“We encourage all fans and members to be courtside to also show their support and to wear the rainbow colours with Pride over your ever present orange.”
In addition to the education sessions with Proud2Play, the GIANTS have worked with the not-for-profit organisation to enhance their game day experience this Saturday night.
The GIANTS will wear rainbow bibs on their charcoal dress as well as a dedicated warm up tee. Official Merchandise Partner Valour Sport will also be selling Pride Round socks.
The GIANTS host the Adelaide Thunderbirds this Saturday night at Ken Rosewall Arena.
