The future of the club for the years to come remains a priority, with the GIANTS confirming their Academy for the 2024 season.
Supporting the most promising and up-and-coming local talent, the GIANTS have selected a list of 20 players, including young training partners Charli Fidler and Monika ‘Otai.
As the GIANTS Netball Academy enters its fifth year of operation, the focus remains on providing a high-performance environment for the identified athletes to continue their development in order to obtain a Suncorp Super Netball contract and graduate into Australian Diamonds.
The GIANTS Academy is renowned for its commitment to nurturing emerging talent, providing comprehensive development programs that encompass skill enhancement and strength and conditioning, as well as access to other high-performance services as part of the holistic approach to mimic and prepare for an elite daily training environment.
In 2024 the program retains the core group of last year’s list with athletes ranging from 17-27 years old.
Former GIANTS training partner Latika Tombs has returned to the setup, while Aimee Landrigan and Millie Tonkin join the program for the first time.
The Academy will continue develop Australian Talent Identified athletes Charli Fidler (21U), Hope White (17U), Millie Roach (21U), Monika ‘Otai (19U) and Olivia Harris (17U).
GIANTS Academy and Pathway Manager Jenny O’Keeffe congratulated the athletes on their selection.
“As the sport of netball continues to surge as the number one participation sport for females, I congratulate this group for earning selection among a competitive market,” she said.
“We are incredibly excited about the talent in this group and where they can take their development this year.
“Alongside our continued focus of individual programs, we look forward to making the most of every opportunity we get to step out on court and represent the GIANTS Academy as a team – whether that be in official competition form or through SSN curtain raisers or other initiatives.”
The GIANTS Academy last weekend travelled to Canberra to participate in the Canberra Challenge alongside the Capital Darters.
“It was a very worthwhile experience and we’re grateful to Netball ACT for the invitation. It was a great way to start the year and to see some of the hard work come to life out on court.”
GIANTS fans will be able to show their support for the next generation of GIANTS throughout the 2024 Suncorp Super Netball season. Curtain raiser matches will be confirmed in due course.
