The GIANTS will join the Griffith City Council, as well as Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, in southern NSW to celebrate the opening of the new Griffith Regional Sports Complex.
The $31.9 million project has seen the complex redeveloped to include seven indoor basketball courts, with seating for over 1000 people, seven all-weather netball courts, new synthetic athletics track with lighting, a new synthetic turf hockey pitch and a new grandstand.
Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald will be joined by Maddie Hay and Lauren Moore to officially launch the complex next weekend and assist with some clinics and activities.
“Griffith City Council are thrilled to welcome GIANTS Netball to our community to help open the new Griffith Regional Sports Centre complex,” said Mayor Doug Curran.
“Netball has a strong local following, and I have no doubt that having elite athletes and coaches of such high calibre visit our city will be an inspiration to our next generation of netballers.”
Griffith Netball Association President, Sandra Woolnough, echoed the Mayor’s welcome.
“The Griffith Netball Association is very excited to be hosting representatives from the GIANTS, for the opening of the new Griffith Regional Sports Centre,” she said.
“It’s fantastic to have such talent, experience and knowledge in coach Julie and current players Maddie and Lauren, taking the time to visit regional areas, and in particular us here in Griffith.
“All our players and supporters are looking forward to seeing and meeting their GIANTS idols.”
Fitzgerald said she is looking forward to visiting the town.
“We’re extremely humbled to have been invited to help open the new complex in Griffith,” Fitzgerald said.
“We always cherish the opportunity to spend time in the community and to be able to visit our regional community in Griffith is a privilege. We can’t wait to visit.”
