The GIANTS will head to Bendigo to take on the Collingwood Magpies to round out their pre-season preparations.
The two teams will meet just two weeks out from the opening round of Suncorp Super Netball on Saturday, April 17 at Bendigo Stadium.
GIANTS Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald said the weekend away provides another good opportunity for her side to test themselves against Super Netball opposition.
“Collingwood will be a different side to what they were in 2020. They have a few changes throughout the court and also have a new coach at the helm,” said Fitzgerald.
“We’ll use the weekend to continue to test our combinations and game plays and learn a bit more about Collingwood before we come up against them in round two.
“We’re a team who enjoy a weekend away together. So, it’s a good chance to have some time away as group, explore the city of Bendigo and no doubt track down the city’s best coffee.
“As a club we’re also supportive of showcasing netball in regional areas, so we’re excited to support the Magpies and Bendigo Council in this event.”
City of Greater Bendigo Tourism and Major Events Manager, Terry Karamaloudis, said the City was very pleased to welcome the Magpies and GIANTS to Greater Bendigo.
“With so many events cancelled or postponed last year, it is fantastic to be able to host this event at our state-of-the-art Bendigo Stadium,” Mr Karamaloudis said.
“We look forward to our community being able to come and enjoy such high quality and exciting elite netball right here in Bendigo.
“We’re proud to have such a diverse and high-quality program of sporting and cultural events on offer.”
Bendigo Stadium’s Head of Events, Kate Lawrence echoed Mr Karamaloudis’ words.
“Greater Bendigo has a strong netball community, and we are proud to provide this community with an opportunity to experience netball at its most elite level.”
Tickets will go on sale this Thursday, 1 April at midday via the Collingwood Magpies website.
