The GIANTS are thrilled to confirm that defender Tilly McDonell will remain on the club’s list for the 2026 season as a temporary replacement player.
McDonell will remain a full-time member of the team while Jamaican defender Jodi-Ann Ward continues her rehabilitation from an ACL injury.
With Ward sidelined, McDonell’s experience, athleticism, and familiarity with the club’s systems make her the obvious choice to combine with Diamonds invitee Erin O’Brien and former Silver Fern, Jane Watson.
Having been part of the GIANTS environment since 2019, McDonell brings stability, versatility, and a strong connection to the club’s culture - qualities that will be essential as the team builds toward a strong 2026 campaign.
“Tilly is one of the most committed and team-first players you’ll find,” said GIANTS head coach Nerida Stewart.
“She is incredibly strong – both physically and mentally – and fully committed to any role she takes on.
“She showed real resilience in 2025, coming back from injury and working her way into form with maturity and drive and we know she’ll continue to bring that same energy into 2026 and will complement to our defensive unit.
McDonell’s continued presence will provide valuable depth and leadership to the GIANTS’ defensive end, and the club is confident she will play a key role both on and off the court in 2026.
The GIANTS will continue to support Ward in her recovery and look forward to welcoming her back to the court when the time is right.
