GIANTS star Jamie Lee Price is a World Champion after Australia smashed England to win a record 12th Netball World Cup in South Africa.
After losing to the Roses in their final group stage clash, the Diamonds got sweet revenge in the tournament decider with a dominant 61-45 victory in Cape Town.
Australia’s 56-55 loss to England just four days prior was their first ever World Cup loss to the Roses, but the Diamonds were able to rebound in emphatic fashion to reclaim their title as the world’s best team.
After a tough and tight opening first quarter had the scores tied at 13-13, the Diamonds dominated the remainder of the decider to deny England a maiden World Cup win.
On the back of a clinical third term - outscoring the Roses 19-13 - Australia cruised home to victory in the final term, with their 16-goal winning margin the largest World Cup final victory since 1995.
The victory - which extended Australia’s record World Cup title count to 12- capped off a rollercoaster tournament for the Diamonds who made it through to the final with a thrilling 57-54 victory over the previously unbeaten Jamaica.
The World Cup win was redemption for Australia after losing the final by just one goal to New Zealand in 2019.
The World Cup title also caps off a brilliant 2023 for GIANTS star Price, who was named Player of the Match in Australia’s wins against Tonga and Scotland on the back of a dominant season for the GIANTS.
The 27-year-old foundation GIANT not only took out the GIANTS’ 2023 HCF Most Valuable Player, but also the Members’ Player of the Year and Players’ Player awards following her career-best season.
