Kim Green has announced that her incredible netball career will come to an end at the conclusion of the GIANTS 2019 Suncorp Super Netball Season.
It has been a decorated career for the Sutherland Local and she has been the face of Netball in New South Wales for many years and has done immense work to grow the profile of not only GIANTS Netball, but the sport as a whole.
Elite Netball Debut
In 2003 Kim Green was given the chance of a lifetime as a 16-year-old school girl when Julie Fitzgerald offered her a contract with the Swifts.
Diamond Debut
Green became the 147th Australian Diamond when she debuted in the Green and Gold in 2008. She went on to represent Australia on 74 occasions.
Shine bright like a Diamond
Diamond #147 represented Australia at the 2011 Netball World Cup in Singapore. The Diamonds defeated New Zealand by one goal in extra time to claim the Gold Medal. The same year she was named the Australian International Player of the Year.
Friends and Fortune
“I’ve made lifelong friends and times I’ve spent with teammates, coaches and support staff are memories that will stay with me forever.” In 2014 Green was part of the Diamonds Squad that claimed Gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
2015 World Cup in Sydney
Green claimed a second World Cup Gold Medal on home soil at the 2015 Netball World Cup. A day after Australia defeated the Silver Ferns in the Gold Medal Match, Green announced her retirement from international netball.
GIANT #1
Kim Green signs as the first player of the newly established GIANTS Netball Club.
Captain Kim
Green became captain of GIANTS Netball in the team’s 2017 inaugural season and has been a key force in shaping the team’s culture of unity and family.
Her leadership resume is impressive: NSW Swifts Co-Captain (2012-13), Australian Diamonds Vice-Captain (2013 & 2014), NSW Swifts Captain (2014-16), Australian Diamonds Captain (England Series in 2014) and GIANTS Netball Captain.
“She’s been a brilliant leader both on and off the court and has been pivotal in setting up the GIANTS as a new club.” said Head Coach Julie Fitzgerald.
GIANT hurdle
In round 5 of the GIANTS’ inaugural season, Green suffered one of netball’s worst injuries in rupturing her ACL.
Green is extremely thankful for the support given from GIANTS Strength and Conditioning Coach Simone Freeman for getting her back on the court.
Momentous Milestone
Green became one of nine players to reach the 200 game milestone in Round 2 of the 2019 Suncorp Super Netball Season.
Thank You Jules
“I have been so super blessed to have had the career I have had for 17 years – I started it with Jules and I’m finishing it with Jules.
“She selected me as a 16-year-old who rocked up to training in my school girl outfit.
“Thanks for believing in me. I wasn’t up to standard but you saw potential in me and that’s what you do so well.”
