The GIANTS have closed out their final road match of the season with a 20‑goal loss to the Sunshine Coast Lightning at UniSC Arena.
The visitors started with real intent, striking first and applying strong defensive pressure through Erin O’Brien while moving the ball quickly through the midcourt. An early deflection and a 3-0 start showed promise, but the Lightning soon settled and produced a nine‑goal run to seize control. A late super shot from Matisse Letherbarrow helped the GIANTS stay in touch, trailing by four at the first break.
The second term proved decisive as the Lightning took command across the court, powered by Donnell Wallam’s 19‑point quarter and relentless defensive pressure from Karin Burger. Their surge pushed the margin to 17 at halftime.
The GIANTS steadied in the third, matching the Lightning for much of the quarter before late super shots extended the scoreline to 57-35.
The visitors outscored the Lightning 19-17 in the final term, driven by Sophie Dwyer’s hot hand from long range with four super shots. It was a strong finish, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome as the Lightning closed out a 74-54 result.
