Last Time they Met: The GIANTS and the Firebirds last met in round six at Nissan Arena in Brisbane. The game went the way of the home team, with the team in purple clutching their first win of the season by a margin of three. The scores were level at half-time but it was the Firebirds who prevailed in the second half to take the win. The GIANTS were winning ball - 15 gains to the Firebirds' 14 - but were struggling to convert.
What it means for the GIANTS: After back-to-back wins the GIANTS sit in fifth place on the ladder. After a slow start to season 2023 the team are focused on capitalising their momentum and finishing the season with as many wins on the board as possible. With finals still a mathematical chance, it's about taking it one game at a time and controlling the controllables.
Where’s the opposition at: It would have been a long trip back from Perth for the Queensland Firebirds last week after a suffering a 34-goal loss to the reigning premiers. The mammoth scoreline takes a hit to the Firebirds' percentage and despite sitting on equal points to the Collingwood Magpies has them sitting in eighth place. Despite last week's heavy defeat, the Firebirds will be looking for an immediate response when they travel to KRA this weekend.
The Name: Jo Harten - it was against the Firebirds' last round that Harten aggravated her left knee which has seen her sidelined for the past two weeks. The GIANTS' captain completed Thursday's training session and has been included on the team list for this weekend.
The Number: 150 - defender April Brandley will this weekend celebrate her 150th National League. It will be a fitting milestone with the NSW junior bringing up the milestone against the side she made her debut for.
