Last Time They Met: It was the Fever who got their 2024 season off to a flyer when the sides last met, with the visitors registering an 84-65 win over the GIANTS at Ken Rosewall Arena in round one. The win came off the back of a strong start for the Fever, with a 45-34 opening half setting up the win. The Fever were clinical in their basic skills, with minimal error, making it hard for the GIANTS to win back any ball. Sophie Dwyer got her season off to a striking start sinking nine Super Shots in a bid to help claw back the Fever’s lead.
What it Means for the GIANTS: Thanks to a log-jammed ladder, the GIANTS sit just two games out of the top four heading into round 12 as they seek revenge on the Fever for the big round one defeat. The GIANTS will head west with an aim for a consistent four-quarter performance with inconsistency costing them the game once again last week. On top for the majority of the game, the GIANTS were outscored 23-12 in the second quarter by the Lightning who used the brief dominance to register a 71-66 win.
What it Means for the Opposition: The third-placed Fever will welcome the GIANTS to town looking to rebound from a shock 78-70 loss to the Firebirds in Queensland last round. The eight-goal defeat marked the Fevers third loss in four rounds, following their dominant start to the 2024 season. Their back-to-back losses saw them take a drop in ladder position, as well as the right to a double chance in the finals series. The team in green will be looking to get their season back on track and resurrect their form in the remaining three rounds.
The Name: Jhaniele Fowler-Nembhard – the 198cm goal shooter is the focus of the Fever’s game plan. Leading the league for goal attempts, goals scored, and Nissan Net Points, the five-time Suncorp Super Netball player of the year attracts plenty of attention from any opposition. While Tilly McDonell is the likely candidate to match up against the Jamaican superstar, it’s the defensive efforts from the remaining six players on court that build the pressure to win the ball.
The Number: 1 - the GIANTS have only managed to defeat the West Coast Fever on enemy territory once since their inception into the competition in 2017. It was in round 10 of the inaugural season and the GIANTS defeated Fever 45-48 at HBF Stadium.
