Where and When: Saturday 7th August, 2:30pm at Nissan Arena (Brisbane).
Where to Watch: Nine, 9Now, Telstra TV or Netball Live App
Last time they met: It was an unforgettable series of circumstances when these two teams last met in round five. After five days of unexpected hotel isolation leading into the match, the GIANTS had energy to burn as they embraced the fresh air in the opening half to hold an eight-goal lead at the main break. In true Fever fashion, the home side came home strong in the second half, pipping the GIANTS at the post to take a one-goal win right on the final whistle.
What it means for the GIANTS: The GIANTS are playing for a second chance and a second minor premiership. With the GIANTS and the Fever the last match to be played in round 14, it will come right down to the closing match to determine the final configuration of the top four. Currently sitting second on percentage, the GIANTS come off a hard fought 65-minute match, just falling short to the Sunshine Coast Lightning by one on Tuesday afternoon.
Where’s the opposition at: The West Coast Fever sit top of the ladder due to percentage but have recorded the greatest amount of wins so far this season. They have suffered just two defeats so far this season, going down to the Swifts in round 9 and the Lightning in round 10 – the other two teams that make up the already confirmed top four. They come off a convincing 20-goal win over the Magpies on Tuesday night.
The Number: 32 – the number of points all the top four teams are on heading into round 14.
Key Match Up: Sophie Dwyer v Sunday Aryang. The future of Australian netball is bright when you look at these two young guns who have taken the competition by storm this year. At just 19 and 20 years of age, both have seamlessly matched it with some of the best in world netball. Dwyer produced some clutch shooting in round 13, sinking six Super Shots to get the GIANTS back in the game, while Aryang was named player of the match in the Fevers’ game against the Magpies
