Last Time They Met: The Fever were the only team that GIANTS didn’t come up against in their pre-season campaign, meaning their last meeting dates back to round 11 of the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season. It marked the end of a mammoth road trip for the team in orange, with their performance a reflection of that. It was a high volume game with 163 goals scored across both teams in the 60-minutes of play, but the GIANTS were unable to make a stop to the Fever’s attack recording just six gains for the game.
What it Means for the GIANTS: After a disappointing result in round one, the GIANTS are hopeful for an improved performance this weekend as they try to match it with one of the best in the league. Returning home this weekend will give the GIANTS a boost, with the orange army set to play their part on game day.
Where’s the Opposition At: The Fever come off a one-goal victory at home, as they retained bragging rights over the Melbourne Vixens in the opening round grand final rematch last week. It came down to the final quarter and the final seconds with Jhaniele Fowler sinking the match winning goal right on the buzzer. However, the victory didn’t come easy for the reigning champions – winning just one of the four quarters (17-12, 15-16, 16-18, 14-15).
The Name: Jo Harten – the captain’s leadership and experience was missing in the GIANTS’ opening round loss last weekend. After undergoing knee surgery at the end of January, the English International is expected to return for the GIANTS this weekend.
The Number: 277 – the number of days since the GIANTS last played at home at Ken Rosewall Arena.
