Last Time They Met: The GIANTS and Vixens met twice in pre-season, with immediate improvement seen between the two games despite the Vixens taking the win on both occasions. The last official meeting was in the 2022 Preliminary Final, when the Vixens came back from nine-goals down at three-quarter time to take the win by one and end the GIANTS’ season.
What it Means for the GIANTS: After getting so close last weekend, the GIANTS are still on the hunt for their first win of the season. With Jo Harten and Maddie Hay back in the squad, and with a full 60-minute performance under their belt, it’s time for the GIANTS to build on their consistency and four-quarter effort.
Where’s the Opposition At: The Vixens secured their first win of the season last round, in a controversial one-goal win over cross-town rivals, the Collingwood Magpies. They’ve had back-to-back opening rounds of one-goal margins, one going their way and the other going the way of the Fever in the Grand Final re-match. Sunday’s match will be the Vixens’ first home game of the season and the first since the Vixens and the GIANTS met at John Cain Arena in the Preliminary Final last year.
The Name: Jamie-Lee Price – the 27-year-old has started the 2023 season in firing form. She led a young GIANTS line up in round one and then took her game to the next level last week with support of Harten and Hay in the attacking third.
The Number: 61.5 – both the GIANTS and the Vixens are averaging the same score so far this season. The Vixens have scored 61 and 62 respectively, while the GIANTS have scored 50 and 73.
