Last Time They Met: The GIANTS and the Swifts last met in round eight of the 2022 Suncorp Super Netball season. It was the Swifts who had done their research on the GIANTS, shutting down their dominant attacking play. It was a pale start from the GIANTS, leaving them on the back-foot from the very beginning. Amy Parmenter, April Brandley and Matilda McDonell were behind a second half fightback but the Swifts had an answer to each surge.
What it Means for the GIANTS: The GIANTS need to start adding more wins to the board if they want to remain in contention for top four. After a slow start the GIANTS were looking to have found their form but were left disappointed with their performance last week, which resulted in a four goal loss to the Firebirds. Returning home this weekend, the GIANTS will look to be lifted by the orange army in at Ken Rosewall Arena.
Where’s the Opposition At: The Swifts find themselves sitting on 3rd place on the ladder with three wins, one loss and one draw. Their last two matches have come down to the final seconds with the Swifts snatching victory by just one goal.
The Name: Carole Sykes - each time the GIANTS and the Swifts meet they play for the Carole Sykes Memorial trophy.
A legend of NSW netball both as a player and coach, Carole Sykes trained some of the best talent coming through NSW. Since GIANTS Netball was formed in 2017 the Carole Sykes Memorial Trophy has been contested with the NSW Swifts for the chance to claim state bragging rights every time the sides play a competitive game.
The Swifts currently hold the trophy after their win in round eight in 2022.
