The GIANTS will take on the high-flying Swifts in a Derby to rival all others when the two top-four sides meet at Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The GIANTS are out to reverse a round one loss to their state rivals after the top of the ladder Swifts beat them 63-56 the last time these two sides met.
Seven rounds have passed since that opening encounter with the Swifts soaring at the top of the Suncorp Super Netball competition with just one loss for the season.
They’ve also collected a whopping 23 of a possible 28 bonus points over the first seven rounds, five more than the next best; the third-placed Vixens.
The GIANTS lead the head-to-head standings with three wins and the Swifts two over their past five meetings.
However, the Swifts have won both previous encounters with the GIANTS at Qudos Bank Arena and in round one scored 63 goals, the most they’d ever shot against the GIANTS.
The Swifts are coming off a 22-goal victory over the Firebirds in Brisbane last round, the first time they’d beaten the Queenslanders in their home state since 2007 in the former Australian Netball League.
The win equalled the Swifts’ most wins in a Suncorp Super Netball season, their sixth win the same amount of games they won across the entire 2018 season.
It cemented their spot at the top of the ladder, with this season the first time in their history they’ve sat in that position.
However, it will be a Swifts side without their captain – and one of their most important players – for the remainder of the season after Maddy Proud went down with a knee injury in last week’s win.
The GIANTS are coming off a controversial 62-all draw with the West Coast Fever in round seven to take them to three wins, a draw and three losses for the season, collecting 15 bonus points along the way.
The GIANTS are in fourth place on the Super Netball ladder, ahead of the fifth-placed Collingwood Magpies by just two points.
The GIANTS haven’t lost a first-half quarter in their past four Super Netball matches, but have won only half of their second-half quarters during that time.
Sunday’s vital clash will see foundation GIANTS Jo Harten, Jamie-Lee Price and Sam Poolman notch up their 40th Super Netball match, having not missed a single game since the start of the competition.
