On behalf of GIANTS Netball, firstly we want to thank you for your continued support through these challenging times for our entire community.
A lot has changed since we were last in touch earlier this week, with the Government shutting down indoor events with more than 100 people present and outdoor events with more than 500 people.
We continue to be guided by the experts in this space and continue to isolate our GIANTS Netball players and staff to ensure we are ready to go when the season commences.
We know that community netball being postponed until May 2 has affected many of you and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation and we all hope you’re back out there on court sooner rather than later.
Talking about the upcoming season, as you can imagine, there have been a number of meetings this week with the Super Netball League, Netball Australia and the clubs and we are hoping to make some decisions in the next week as to how our season progresses.
All practice matches have been cancelled so our teams don’t have to travel unnecessarily but our intention, and certainly our preparation, is for Round 1 to begin as planned on Sunday, May 3 against the Thunderbirds in Adelaide, albeit with no crowds.
Now moving away for COVID-19 for a minute, I wanted to update you on our club and some of the exciting activities that are continuing to take place. We have been overwhelmed with your support and the messages we have been receiving so please keep sending them in as it certainly gives us a boost.
As you may have seen already, our new home at Ken Rosewall Arena is in the process of being transformed into a netball venue with the court being laid this week ready for our team to try out in the coming weeks. Check out the short video, here.
The team itself has been training without interruption with a special gym being set up at GIANTS HQ for the team to train in isolation. Caitlin Bassett is on track with her rehab from her knee injury and the rest of the squad is fit and healthy and counting down till the season commences.
Your member packs are being readied for dispatch by the end of this month to make sure you have them before the season begins.
