The GIANTS have finalised their squad for round two, adding West Coast Fever training partner Chelsea Pitman.
With six players of the club’s extended 18-player squad ruled out with COVID-19 and the club’s training partner list exhausted, the GIANTS have been granted approval to select Pitman from the nominated list of athletes in line with the league’s COVID-19 Contingency Framework.
Pitman comes into the 11-player squad for round two, along with Charli Fidler, Ang Frketic and Erin O’Brien – all GIANTS training partners.
Pitman provides depth in the GIANTS' midcourt and attack end, while Frketic is a shooter and Fidler and O'Brien are defenders.
Amy Sligar and Lauren Moore have also been medically cleared to participate in Sunday’s match after exiting isolation during the week.
Not available this week due to health and safety protocols are Sophie Dwyer, Jamie-Lee Price and Amy Parmenter, as well as training partners Eliza Burton, Jemma Donoghue and Nat Sligar.
If she makes it on court for the GIANTS during Sunday’s match, it will be a fitting return to Suncorp Super Netball for Pitman, with the 33-year-old set to potentially come up against her former club the Adelaide Thunderbirds.
Pitman last held a Super Netball contract with the Thunderbirds in season 2020 and since then has been playing in Netball South Australia’s Premier League competition before accepting a training partner position with the West Coast Fever.
The former Thunderbirds captain has 129-games experience, having represented Adelaide Thunderbirds, West Coast Fever, Queensland Firebirds and NSW Swifts.
The GIANTS appreciate the support from West Coast Fever to release Pitman for the match.
The GIANTS take on the Thunderbirds at 4pm AEST on Sunday with live coverage on Foxtel and Kayo Freebies.
