It’s been a GIANT end to week four of pre-season with the announcement of a new captain for 2020.
This week the team took the court in their first intra-club practice match featuring all the club’s Suncorp Super Netball players and training partners.
GIANTS Assistant Coach Jenny O’Keeffe said she is happy with how the girls are tracking at this point of the season.
“It was very exciting to see all the girls take the court in match play,” she said.
“We had the opportunity to experiment with some different combinations and explore our depth.
“Overall everyone used the experience to set the on-court tone for the season.
“It was also impressive to watch our training partners and the team in that environment.”
The GIANTS will begin their first pre-season practice matches next week when they head to New Zealand to take on the Northern Mystics and Northern Stars in Auckland.
“Wednesday’s match play was a great indication of exactly where we are at heading into New Zealand next week,” O’Keeffe said.
“Everyone is very much looking forward to the trip and taking the court as a team.”
New Zealand will be the first time the new-look leadership team of captain Jo Harten and vice-captain Kristiana Manu’a will be tested in a game-like scenario.
“The team response to the announcement of Jo and Kristiana was fabulous,” O’Keeffe said.
“Both these players lead by example and demand a high standard both on and off the court.
“Their leadership styles are quite different but complement each other to the benefit of everyone at the club.”
