GIANTS Netball will welcome a new club captain in 2024, with Jamie-Lee Price to join Jo Harten to lead the club for the upcoming Suncorp Super Netball season.
The experienced duo will share the responsibilities and title of co-captains – a first since the club’s inception back in 2016.
28-year-old Price will become just the club’s third-ever captain, graduating into the role after three seasons as vice-captain.
The dynamic and powerful player has established herself as one of the best defensive midcourters in the current game and moves into the new role off the back of career-best form for both the GIANTS and the Origin Australian Diamonds.
The Bankstown City junior’s tenacity and strategic mindset make her an invaluable asset to the team, and her appointment as co-captain is a testament to her outstanding leadership qualities.
Meanwhile, Harten returns for her fifth season as club captain, having taken the reins from inaugural captain Kim Green ahead of the 2020 season.
The former English Rose is not only one of the most prolific goal shooters world netball has seen but is one of the most respected leaders in the competition and known for her exceptional skills on the court as well as her ability to inspire her teammates.
GIANTS head coach Julie Fitzgerald congratulated the pair as she expressed her confidence in the appointment.
“It’s exciting to confirm the announcement of our new-look leadership duo for 2024,” Fitzgerald said.
“Jo and Jamie-Lee bring complementary skills and qualities to the co-captaincy role, and I have no doubt that their leadership will inspire our players to achieve new heights this season.
“Jo has led this club with such class and professionalism to date and I look forward to seeing her inject the same level of passion into the role this season.
“For Jamie-Lee, this appointment sees her embark on the next chapter in her journey as a leader. She embodies the natural leadership skills required to represent this club and as she continues to work alongside Jo in this space, I'm sure she’ll evolve into an exceptional club leader for many years to come.”
Following her re-appointment as captain, Harten said:
“As a relatively young club, I'm proud of the steps we take in order to achieve more and be better, always striving for the ultimate success,” Harten said.
“With that said, leadership does not always come easy and my ambition is to maintain our integrity while turning every stone alongside Jamie-Lee, asking more of our group as we inspire each other to greater heights.”
Price said she is honoured to be appointed as co-captain.
"It’s a privilege to call myself a member of the GIANTS team and an absolute honour to be able to co-captain alongside Jo this year,” Price added.
“To be able to help lead the team with her is something that is very special – she's a phenomenal person, player and leader and I'm sure I'll continue to learn so much as i lead alongside her.
The GIANTS will open their 2024 Suncorp Super Netball campaign on Saturday, April 13 when they welcome the West Coast Fever to Ken Rosewall Arena in Sydney Olympic Park.
