Star midcourter Jamie-Lee Price has taken out the Marilyn Melhuish OAM Medal at the 2021 Netball NSW State Awards held on Wednesday evening.
The Marilyn Melhuish OAM Medal is awarded to a Suncorp Super Netball player from either the GIANTS or the Swifts, who has displayed a consistent outstanding performance throughout the season and excels in the values of the Netball NSW organisation.
Marilyn Melhuish OAM is a past president of Netball Australia and Netball NSW, a Life Member of Netball NSW, a service holder of Netball Australia, an inductee int the Netball NSW Hall of Fame and served Netball NSW as a Manager of State Teams for many years.
The award is voted on by an applicable delegate on a 3,2,1 points system at each of the GIANTS and Swifts home and away games.
In her fifth season with the club, Price’s game only continued to grow in 2021, with the go-to centre one of the GIANTS most consistent performers.
With 1075.5 Nissan Net Points, Price was the leading player for the GIANTS on the league’s overarching player metric and stats-based scoring system and ranked second in the competition.
The former wing defence finished the 2021 season with 366 feeds, 278 goal assists and 22 intercepts.
“I’m really honoured to get this award and definitely didn’t expect it,” said Jamie-Lee Price.
“It was a crazy year and there was a lot thrown at us, both NSW sides, but I’m really proud of how we adapted and got through the year and made it to the Grand Final.
“Comparing last year to this year was a great achievement.
“We’ve come a long way and I think it showed on court. We enjoyed our netball, learnt what we were good at and we take a lot out confidence into next year and we can’t wait.”
Price joins Jo Harten and Kristiana Manu’a who have also received this award since the club’s inception.
