Last Time They Met: The last time the two teams met was in the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball Preliminary Final. Played on the Sunshine Coast, the GIANTS were on from the first whistle. Running with an unchanged line-up, the GIANTS led at every break and despite a fourth quarter surge from the Fever, held a three-goal lead at the final whistle. Retired GIANT Sam Poolman was instrumental in the GIANTS’ victory and despite only recording 10 Nissan Net Points, arguably won the battle with Jhaniele Fowler.
What it means for the GIANTS: After a slow and disruptive start to the season the GIANTS are looking to build on their win-loss ratio. Currently sitting in sixth place, the GIANTS only sit outside the top four on percentage. Fourth through to seventh all sit on the same points but a percentage of 93.18 (GF = 287 and GA = 308) places the GIANTS in sixth. With the ladder so tight, every win and goal is crucial to setting up a top-four finish.
Where’s the opposition at: The West Coast Fever sit atop the ladder, with four win and one loss. Their one loss was dealt to them by the Melbourne Vixens in round four, a 75-66 victory to the Vixens. The Fever have been travelling all across the country for the super-squeezed rounds 3-5 fixture. They come off a convincing 18-goal victory over fellow NSW team the Swifts, at RAC Arena in Perth.
The Name: Sasha Glasgow – the silent assassin. Not all the attention within the circle can be focussed in on Fowler. Her shooting partner Glasgow leads goal assists and sits second in the league for Super Shots.
The Number: 67 – is the average winning score from the first five rounds of the competition. The GIANTS scored 76 goals in round five and average 57 goals a game, while the Fever average 74 goals.
The News: Following Thursday's Origin Diamonds Commonwealth Games squad announcement, five of the 18-players announced will be in action on Sunday. GIANTS Jamie-Lee Price, Sophie Dwyer and Amy Parmenter and Fever's defensive duo of Sunday Aryang and Courtney Bruce.
