Thursday night’s showdown at Netball Central against the Swifts marks the last hit-out before the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season begins - and for the GIANTS, it’s all about setting their standard.
With round one fast approaching, this clash is far more than a “friendly.” It’s a crucial opportunity to sharpen combinations, reinforce structures and cement the brand of netball the GIANTS want to be known for in 2026.
For Head Coach Nerida Stewart, the focus is clear.
“Our focus is on ourselves - fine-tuning our game so we can consistently deliver a hard, competitive brand of netball,” Stewart said.
“This is the test we need ahead of round one.”
That competitive intent has underpinned the GIANTS’ entire pre-season campaign. Building versatility across the court has been a priority, with different line-ups explored and combinations trialled, but never at the expense of identity.
“One of our biggest learnings to date has been around versatility and line-ups,” Stewart explained.
“We’ve built flexibility into our group, but we still need to stick to our structure and trust it. We’ve got the engine in us - now it’s about staying strategically aligned.”
Thursday night presents the perfect platform to bring that balance to life. The GIANTS will be looking to establish their defensive intensity, polish their attacking connections and demonstrate the cohesion that has been building behind the scenes.
The rivalry with the Swifts always brings edge and energy, but the priority remains internal delivering on process, discipline and intent.
For Sydney-based fans, it’s a first look at new combinations within a familiar rivalry.
For the GIANTS, it’s the final measuring stick before the real business begins - a chance to ensure systems are cohesive, connections are sharp and the competitive mindset is locked in.
Netball Central will provide the stage, but the objective is bigger than one night.
Thursday isn’t just another pre-season fixture - it’s the standard-setter for the season ahead.
