GIANTS Netball have named an unchanged leadership group to take them into the 2021 Suncorp Super Netball Season.
For the second season, England Roses international Jo Harten will captain the side with Kristiana Manu’a as her deputy at vice-captain.
Harten is just the club’s second captain, following in the footsteps of netball great Kim Green.
Coach Julie Fitzgerald praised Harten and Manu’a for their leadership across a tough 2020 season.
“Jo and Kris stepped into the roles ahead of what would become one of the most challenging seasons in our competition’s history,” Fitzgerald said.
“They led us admirably as we relocated to Queensland and kept the group together across three months away from home.
“We didn’t achieve what we wanted to on-court last year but their leadership never faulted and we’re looking forward to where they can take us in 2021.”
Harten said the appointment was an honour.
“It’s a privilege to lead this group of women on and off the court,” Harten said.
“After not living up to our own expectations last season, I’ve seen an incredible amount of hard work and determination from our squad this pre-season.
“We’re a settled group who know each other well and we’re confident in where we are at a couple of weeks out from the 2021 season.
“We just can’t wait to get back out on court and play in front of our members and fans this season.”
The GIANTS have been in impressive pre-season form and wrap up their preparations with a pair of practice matches against the Collingwood Magpies in Bendigo this weekend.
The GIANTS open their SSN season with a clash against the Adelaide Thunderbirds in Adelaide on Sunday, May 2 before back-to-back home games to open Ken Rosewall Arena in rounds two and three.
