The GIANTS Academy are set to launce their 2026 Super Netball Reserves campaign in style this Saturday, opening with a blockbuster NSW Derby that promises intensity, fresh talent and a glimpse into the club's next generation.
Leading the side is captain Jamie Podmore-Taylor, whose composure and experience will be key in setting the tone early in the season. She'll be supported by vice-captain Audrey Little, as well as Super Netball Training Partners, Monika 'Otai and Eva Carneiro.
Carneiro, alongside Marley Aplin, Matilda Fanning and Violet Wetsteyn, will make their Super Netball Reserves debuts, underlining the Academy’s continued commitment to developing emerging talent and providing clear pathways into the elite level.
GIANTS Academy Head Coach Bec Bulley said the selected squad reflects both a combination of experience and emerging talent, as well as versatility.
“We picked a team that is versatile, with players who can play multiple positions and offer different styles,” Bulley said.
“There’s some great experience in the group, along with some really talented young players coming off strong Nationals campaign.”
With the Super Netball Reserves competition continuing to evolve, Bulley highlighted the rising standards and increased competitiveness across the league.
“Every year the competition is evolving and becoming more professional and we want to ensure we keep lifting our standards to meet those needs and demands.
“For us it’s about finding a balance between continuing to develop potential SSN talent whilst also remaining competitive and that matches how we selected our team for this week.”
Saturday’s opening round Derby presents an early opportunity for the GIANTS Academy to showcase not only the talent but the depth of the program and ideally make a strong start to the Super Netball Reserves competition.
