As the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season edges closer, the GIANTS are all set for Adelaide as part of the league’s official pre-season tournament, the Suncorp Team Girls Cup.
The annual league-wide event is an exciting once-a-year event where all eight Suncorp Super Netball teams come together in the same state for a round-robin style competition.
This year’s event will be played at Netball SA Stadium from the 14th-16th March with the GIANTS placed in pool a alongside the Sunshine Coast Lightning, Adelaide Thunderbirds and Melbourne Mavericks.
The GIANTS will face off against the Lightning at 6:30pm on Friday night, kicking off their Team Girls Cup campaign with what promises to be an exciting and highly competitive contest. Both sides boast strong and mobile shooting circles, with all shooters able to score from range.
In an action-packed Saturday, the GIANTS will first take on the hosts, the Adelaide Thunderbirds, at 3:30pm, giving themselves a chance to apply the lessons learned from their narrow three-goal loss in Ballarat just two weeks ago.
Backing it up with a 7:30pm fixture, the GIANTS will meet the Mavericks in what is sure to be a physical and intense match up. This match will test the teams’ endurance and ability to execute under pressure, as they look to close out a demanding day with a strong performance.
Sunday’s fixture will be determined based on the results of the pool matches.
The GIANTS will travel with an extended squad of 14 players that feature all 11 contracted athletes for the first time this pre-season.
As defender Tilly McDonell returns from knee soreness – plus the addition of recently elevated training partner Monika ‘Otai as the 11th player - the GIANTS will use the upcoming tournament as a crucial stepping stone as they look to build on the momentum and chemistry across pre-season thus far.
Training partner Audrey Little will join the squad, as well as Academy members Olivia Harris and Jamie Podmore-Taylor.
GIANTS head coach Julie Fitzgerald said she was excited by the weekend ahead.
“Team Girls Cup is always a great opportunity to test where we’re at and get a look at the broader competition,” Fitzgerald said.
“We’ve had solid pre-season schedule so far and we’re looking forward to testing ourselves against some more teams within the competition.
“While we will manage the load of some of our players, I'm particularly excited to have the full squad available for the first time this pre-season and seeing how our game plan holds up in these competitive matches.
“It’s also a fantastic opportunity for Millie, Audrey, and Jamie to experience this level of competition and we’ve already seen significant growth and improvement from their exposure throughout pre-season so far.”
Every game of Team Girls Cup will be live on Kayo Sports and Foxtel, plus for the first time, the netball will also be available on Binge.
Tickets for all matches are also still available via Ticketmaster.
