GIANTS Academy young gun Hope White has been recognised for her potential in the sport after being selected as a recipient of the 2024 Commonwealth Games New South Wales Athlete Grant Program.
Nominated by their respective State Sporting Organisations from their talented pathway programs, White is one of 40 young athletes from across 22 different sports to be chosen as 2024 winners of the grant.
Hailing from the Newcastle Netball Association, White is a dynamic hybrid wing attack who continues to impress in her time in the GIANTS Academy and through her representative play for New South Wales.
The grant continues a strong start to 2024 for the talented teen, with White – alongside GIANTS Training Partner Monika ‘Otai – recently selected in Netball Australia’s 19U National Squad.
White was chosen following a strong campaign at the week-long National Netball Championships in Frankston where she was also named MVP in New South Wales’ 19U national championship-winning game.
The 17-year-old will be awarded $1,000.00 to help with their sporting endeavours.
“We're so pleased that Hope’s hard work and dedication has been recognised as a successful recipient of a 2024 Commonwealth Games NSW athlete grant,” NNSW General Manager of Performance and Pathways, Mardi Aplin said.
“Hope’s technical skills, competitiveness and on court intuition is outstanding and I have loved watching her continue to grow over the years within the Netball NSW pathways programs.
“Being a regional athlete, from Maitland, and playing her junior years in the Hunter region, she is a positive and generous role model to young athletes and we have no doubt that Hope’s achievement will inspire our regional athletes to strive to achieve their goals.
“After Hope’s outstanding performance at the National Netball Championships, receiving MVP of the grand final in Frankston, she is a very deserving recipient of this award. Congratulations Hope, we are so excited to watch you in the future.
White and the other 2024 grant winners are the sixth contingent to receive the honour, with 169 athletes awarded grants since the program commenced in 2016.
While originally awarded every two years, the grant is now an annual award, with the selection criteria requiring athletes to be a resident of NSW and under 20 years of age.
