The GIANTS are delighted to announce that talented local Skye Thompson has been signed as
the club’s 11th Player for the 2026 Suncorp Super Netball season.
A versatile utility capable of playing both wing and goal attack, Thompson was initially
announced as the club’s latest Training Partner in November, but her impressive summer has
now seen her elevated to the club’s 11th Player for the upcoming SSN season.
Launched in 2024, the 11th Player is an initiative introduced by Netball Australia which offers
SSN clubs the opportunity to sign an additional athlete who can be brought into the match
day squad for tactical purposes, not just in the case of injury or illness.
Thompson’s addition to the GIANTS over the pre-season came after playing a key role in the
New South Wales’ 19U championship win at Nationals last year.
Also a former member of the Swifts Academy, Thompson was recently named in New South
Wales’ 2026 19U State Team.
Hailing from Sutherland Shire, the promising teenager’s key strengths lie in her speed and
agility, her strong netball IQ, and her elite endurance.
GIANTS Netball Head Coach Nerida Stewart said Thompson had earned her elevation after an
impressive start to life in the GIANTS program.
“We’re thrilled to elevate Skye to become our 11th Player after the strong impression she’s
made in the environment over the past few months,” Stewart said.
“From the moment she joined our program as a Training Partner, she embraced the
standards of our high-performance environment and has continued to grow every week.
“She’s a talented local product who has already shone for her state at national underage
level, and it’s been fantastic to see her take those qualities and translate them into our
training environment.
“Just as importantly, Skye brings a fantastic work ethic and a genuine joy for the game, and
those qualities have made her a really valued member of our group. This elevation is a
reward for the effort she’s put in, and we’re excited to see her continue to develop with us.”
After a gruelling pre-season, the GIANTS will kickstart their 2026 Suncorp Super Netball
campaign on Saturday afternoon in an exciting clash with the Mavericks at
Red Energy Stadium in Bendigo.
