The GIANTS are thrilled to confirm their final list spot for the 2025 Suncorp Super Netball season, securing the signature of Gina Crampton.
The former Silver Fern landed at the GIANTS as a training partner ahead of the 2024 season, after she relocated to Sydney with her partner and All Blacks sevens player Fa’asiu Fuatai.
The addition of Crampton, a highly skilled and experienced player, is set to bolster the GIANTS’ midcourt and bring a fresh level of intensity to the team as they look to bounce back from their 2024 campaign.
With over 150 games of National Netball League experience with the Southern Steel and Northern Stars, and 68 caps with the Silver Ferns, Crampton has garnered widespread acclaim for her exceptional vision, precise passing and strategic game play.
Crampton played one Super Netball game with the GIANTS this season, with her ability to control the pace of the game and her knack for finding space on full display.
The experienced midcourter said she was stoked to be joining the team.
“There were a few nerves that go along with that feeling but mostly I’m excited to get into it all and be a part of the GIANTS full time,” she said.
Originally set to take some time away from the game, Crampton has done a 180 and couldn’t be more excited to be back on the court in a full-time capacity with a Suncorp Super Netball franchise.
“Yeah, it definitely wasn’t in the plans when I left New Zealand,” she admitted.
“I had to really sit on it for a while if I’m honest. I’m at the back end of my career and I definitely had some doubts creep in, but at the end of the day, it was an opportunity to be a part of the best netball league in the world and I had to do it.
“I thoroughly enjoyed season 2024 as a training partner. Everything was new for me but I felt so welcomed – I was in awe of how the GIANTS is run and how well supported you are – so I'm excited to be part of it in a full-time capacity next year.”
As a new chapter awaits for the worldly experienced Crampton, it’s the sense of belonging to a team that she’s most looking forward to.
“I just want to be a part of the team, be accountable for the girls and be a part of the ins and outs of how we perform,” she said.
“They are things that you cannot replicate outside of sport, and that’s what I love about netball.
“Being part of a tight group working towards the common goal - whether that be getting some wins on the board or being proud of the brand of netball we put out. Add that on top of being challenged by the world's best players each week, I believe it will be a special year for me.”
GIANTS head coach Julie Fitzgerald said she was delighted to announce Crampton as the final piece of the puzzle for season 2025.
"Gina is an outstanding addition to our squad,” Fitzgerald said.
“Her experience and skill set align perfectly with our team’s goals and strategies.
“We’re excited to see how her leadership and playmaking abilities will contribute to our performance on the court.”
Crampton signs a one-year contract, joining Tilly McDonell (2025) and young defender Erin O’Brien (2026) as the three off-season signings for the club.
