Experienced defender Jane Watson is expected to miss the next six to eight weeks of her debut Suncorp Super Netball season.
After being named in the starting seven for Saturday’s match, Watson entered the game late in the opening quarter after receiving treatment and assessment following a collision in the warm-up.
After playing out the entire second quarter, Watson called time and exited the game at the beginning of the third quarter after feeling a pull in her calf.
The former Silver Fern was sent for scans on Tuesday evening, with scans revealing a torn MCL on her left knee and medium-grade calf strain on her right calf.
Watson won’t require surgery and will begin her rehab immediately.
GIANTS Netball Head Coach Nerida Stewart said:
“It’s obviously disappointing for Jane and for us as a group as she has been a really valuable addition to our team this year.
“She’s a true professional and we know she will attack her rehab with the same determination and intent she has displayed on the court so far this season.
“She has made a huge sacrifice to join our club this year and we will continue to support her and her family over the next couple of months.
“The club will now look into our options to replace Jane for both the short and long term.”
