Star defender Jodi-Ann Ward will make a GIANT step in her return this weekend, taking to the court for the Manly Warringah Sapphires in Netball NSW's Heart Kids Cup.
Ward suffered an ACL injury in round seven last season and is now closing in on her return, with several key milestones still to be completed before rejoining Suncorp Super Netball.
This weekend will mark her first competitive match since the injury - a crucial step in rebuilding match fitness, confidence, and exposure to game demands.
The NSW Premier League pre-season tournament provides an ideal platform for her return to competitive play.
The defensive stalwart has progressed strongly through her rehabilitation, demonstrating elite discipline and consistency.
Known for her athleticism, reach, and ability to shut down some of the competition’s most dangerous attackers, Ward’s return will provide a significant boost once she is fully cleared.
GIANTS Head of Performance, Tom Reddin said:
“We’re really pleased with where Jodi-Ann is at in her rehab,” Reddin said.
“She’s put in an enormous amount of work to get to this point, and this weekend represents an important step in her transition back to Super Netball level.
“Returning through a competition like this allows her to re-experience the demands of match play, which is exactly what she needs at this stage.”
Reddin also acknowledged the role of the Manly Warringah Sapphires in supporting Ward’s return.
“We’re incredibly grateful to the Sapphires and their Head Coach Mel Clark for providing such a professional and supportive environment for Jodi-Ann,” he said.
“Having the opportunity to play quality minutes in a well-managed setting is invaluable for her progression.”
While there is no definitive timeline for her return to Suncorp Super Netball, Ward’s comeback is firmly on track - with this weekend marking a significant milestone in her journey back to the elite level.
